Desiccant Air Dryers
Desiccant Air Dryers

Desiccants in compressed air dryers remove moisture to protect equipment and ensure clean, dry air. Common types like activated alumina, silica gel, and molecular sieves adsorb water vapor as air passes through. This is vital in industries like food, pharma, and electronics. Desiccants require regular regeneration or replacement to maintain dryer efficiency and system reliability.

Activated alumina is an aluminum oxide bead with an extremely porous structure and high surface area-to-mass ratio. Activated alumina has a wide variety of applications, including compressed air and gas drying. In compressed air and gas drying applications, activated alumina will achieve dew points -40°F to -100°F, depending on the dryer design. In compressed air desiccant dryers, a 1/8" (2-5 mm) activated alumina bead is most commonly used. The 1/4" (5-10 mm) activated alumina bead is typically used as a pre-bed for supporting large desiccant beds or as a buffer for silica gel beds. The 3/16" (5-10 mm) bead is used when pressure drop and surface area requirements fall between the 1/8" and 1/4" material. Features and Benefits High adsorption capacity for reducing initial cost, energy consumption, and operating costs Low abrasion for ensuring minimal dusting and a low pressure drop Resistant to liquid water slugging resulting from the failure of up stream after-coolers, separators, or drain traps. The adsorption capacity of the desiccant can be restored after complete regeneration. High crush strength for limiting dusting during loading of desiccant into dryer towers Uniform bead size minimizes pressure drop, channeling, and ensures utilization of the full desiccant bed In regenerative drying systems, Van Air activated alumina beds are sized for a service life of 2-5 years Available in 25lb pails, 50lb bags, 375lb steel drums and 2,000lb bulk bags Downloads Brochure Safety Data Sheet (SDS)

Van Air Systems D-Series Compressed Air Dryers are single tower deliquescent compressed air dryers for stationary applications. D-Series Dryers remove harmful water vapor from compressed air lines. Wet compressed air enters the bottom of the dryer and flows upward through a bed of deliquescent desiccant, which absorbs moisture as it slowly dissolves. Condensate drops to the bottom of the vessel to be drained. Dry compressed air exits the top of the vessel. When used with Dry-O-Lite desiccant, the D-Series Compressed Air Dryer automatically provides a dew point that is approximately 20°F lower than temperature of the air at the vessel inlet. For example, if the air inlet temperature is 80°F, the D-series Dryer delivers a 60°F dew point. If the air inlet temperature is 50°F, the dryer delivers a 32°F dew point. Ideal for a wide range of applications, these compressed air dryers protect against freeze-ups in the winter and liquid in the summer. D-Series Compressed Air Dryers may be installed inside or outside, and with a pressure drop less than 1% of the operating pressure, they are ideal for low pressure applications. Also with no moving parts or electrical components, D-Series Compressed Air Dryers can be applied with confidence in dirty and hazardous locations. Features Manual drain valve (1" NPT) Two sight windows to check desiccant level Elliptical direct entry hatch cover Pressure relief coupling Vessels built and stamped to ASME code Epoxy interior coating Epoxy coated carbon steel bed support grid Primer and enamel exterior finish 10 year vessel warranty Applications Steel mills Saw mills Lumber yards Ready-mix concrete plants Asphalt plants Cement production Mining Digester gas and landfill gas General plant air for preventing airline condensation Dirty and hazardous environments Remote locations with limited or no electricity Downloads Brochure Manual Drawings

Dry-O-Lite, the industry-leading deliquescent desiccant, is a chemical drying agent specifically formulated for Van Air Systems single tower compressed air dryers and natural gas pipeline dryers. Dry-O-Lite is a dense hygroscopic tablet that absorbs water vapor from streams of compressed air or gas. The surface of the desiccant tablet dissolves slowly, forming a brine solution which drops from the surface. The tablet continuously dissolves, or deliquesces, until the desiccant is fully consumed. In a properly sized D-series Compressed Air Dryer or Pipeline Dryer, Dry-O-Lite will establish a relative humidity of 55%, which equates to a dew point approximately 20°F lower than the temperature of the compressed air or gas at the inlet of the dryer. *Also known as GasDry Prime Features and Benefits No energy consumption Prevents condensation Can be used indoors or outdoors Prevents wintertime air and gas line freeze-ups Environmentally safe Low cost of operation relative to refrigerated dryers and regenerative desiccant dryers 3/4" tablet Little or no maintenance on drying equipment Available in 50lb bags, 50lb pails, 480lb steel drums and 2,000lb bulk bags Applications Abrasive blasting Portable air drying Low pressure gases, e.g. digester gas and landfill gas Remote outdoor locations without electricity Fuel gas dehydration for natural gas Ready-mix, asphalt, and concrete plants Pulp and paper Steel mills Dirty environments or areas with electrical classification restrictions Downloads Brochure Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
