- Fuel, gas, and oil valves are specialized valves designed to safely and reliably control the flow of combustible and flammable fluids including natural gas, propane, fuel oil, diesel, gasoline, hydraulic oil, and lubricating oil. These valves are engineered with materials, seals, and safety features appropriate for the fire and explosion hazards associated with handling hydrocarbon-based fluids. They are used across a wide range of industries and applications: industrial boiler and burner systems (controlling fuel gas and fuel oil flow to combustion equipment), power generation plants (fuel supply systems for gas turbines, boilers, and diesel generators), manufacturing facilities (fuel supply for industrial ovens, furnaces, dryers, and process heaters), building HVAC systems (gas supply for commercial boilers and water heaters), vehicle fueling stations, oil refineries, and chemical plants. These valves must meet strict safety standards and codes depending on the specific fuel and application, including UL, FM, CSA, and NFPA standards for fuel gas equipment.
- Several valve types are used in fuel gas systems depending on the application, line size, and whether the valve provides on/off shutoff or modulating control. - A fuel train (also called a fuel gas train or burner management system piping assembly) is the assembly of valves, regulators, switches, and other components installed in the fuel supply piping between the main fuel supply and a burner, boiler, furnace, or other combustion equipment. Its purpose is to safely control and monitor fuel flow during startup, operation, and shutdown, and to reliably shut off fuel in an emergency.
