- A butterfly valve is a quarter turn valve that uses a rotating disc to control or isolate flow in a piping system. The valve opens and closes quickly and is commonly used in large diameter applications.

- Common types include wafer style, lug style, and flanged butterfly valves. They are also classified as concentric or high performance (double offset) designs.
