PEEK (polyetheretherketone) is the primary body material used in microfluidic valves like the ASCO Series 068 and 082 available through Centro. It is also biocompatible, making it suitable for medical diagnostic and pharmaceutical applications. The low power consumption and compact design of microfluidic valves also make them suitable for manifold mounting configurations where multiple valves are grouped together to create complex fluid switching and routing networks.
- A microfluidic solenoid valve works on the same electromagnetic principle as a standard industrial solenoid valve, but miniaturized for microscale fluid handling. A small electromagnetic coil surrounds a movable plunger or armature. When electrical current is applied to the coil (typically 24 VDC for microfluidic valves), the resulting magnetic field pulls the plunger, opening or closing the fluid pathway through the valve.
