Gas Springs

Gas springs use pressurized nitrogen to provide smooth, controlled force for lifting, lowering and holding. They're found on machine guards, access doors, hoods, lids and adjustable equipment, making heavy panels easy and safe to open.

Gas Spring Types

  • Standard gas springs – lift support and counterbalance
  • Locking gas springs – hold position anywhere in the stroke
  • Traction (pull-type) springs – pull instead of push
  • Stainless steel gas springs – for food, marine and washdown use
  • End fittings and brackets – ball sockets, eyelets and clevises

Sizing a Gas Spring

Measure the lid or door weight, its center of gravity and the hinge geometry to calculate the force needed. Then check the extended length and stroke. Mount rod-down where possible to keep seals lubricated. Adjustable-force springs simplify fine-tuning.
