Positive Displacement Flow Meters
Positive displacement flow meters measure liquids by trapping and counting fixed volumes as the fluid passes through. They're very accurate for viscous liquids such as oils, fuels, lubricants, syrups and chemicals, and need little or no straight-run piping.
PD Meter Types
- Oval gear meters – compact, accurate and suited to many viscosities
- Nutating disc meters – common for water and light liquids
- Rotary piston meters – reliable measurement of fuels and oils
- Helical and lobed rotor meters – higher flows and low pressure drop
- Mechanical and electronic registers – local display or pulse output
Selection Tips
Confirm the viscosity, flow range, pressure and temperature, and choose materials compatible with the fluid. Install a strainer upstream, since solids can damage the meter's measuring elements. PD meters are a good choice for batching and custody transfer.
