- A data recorder (also called a chart recorder or paperless recorder) continuously captures and stores process measurements — temperature, pressure, flow, level, and other variables — over time. You need a recorder when regulatory agencies or quality standards require documented proof that your process stayed within specification (common in food processing, pharmaceuticals, heat treatment, environmental compliance, and water/wastewater treatment), when you need to troubleshoot process upsets by reviewing historical trends, or when you want to monitor long-term equipment performance and energy consumption.
