Pumps
Process pumps move liquids, slurries and chemicals through production lines, treatment systems and transfer operations. Choosing the right pump type for the fluid and duty is key to efficiency, reliability and safe...
Positive displacement pumps move a fixed volume of fluid with each rotation or stroke, which makes them ideal for thick, viscous and shear-sensitive fluids such as oils, syrups, adhesives, sludges and polymers. Centrifugal pumps lose efficiency as viscosity rises, but PD pumps keep delivering steady flow.
PD Pump Types
- Gear pumps – internal and external gear designs for oils and viscous liquids
- Lobe pumps – gentle handling for food and sanitary use
- Progressive cavity pumps – sludges and fluids with solids
- Vane pumps – thin to medium viscosity liquids
- Peristaltic and diaphragm pumps – abrasives and chemicals
Selection Factors
Gather the viscosity range, flow rate, discharge pressure, temperature and any solids content. Viscosity drives pump speed and motor size, and running slower often extends pump life. Always include pressure relief protection with PD pumps.
