Solar Controllers

Solar controllers run the pumps in a solar water heating system. They compare collector and storage tank temperatures and only circulate fluid when there's useful heat to collect. A good controller increases solar gain, protects the system from overheating and freezing, and shows you how the system is performing.

Choosing a Controller

Count the sensors and outputs your system needs, such as multiple collectors, tanks or a pool loop. Make sure it's compatible with your pump type and sensor style (usually PT1000 or 10K). Easy-to-read displays and alarms help catch problems before they cost energy.
