Sleeveline Plug Valves
Sleeveline plug valves are highly reliable for precise fluid control in various industrial applications. These valves feature a cylindrical plug with a sleeve that rotates within the valve body, allowing for efficient flow regulation and tight shut-off. The sleeve provides excellent sealing properties, making sleeveline plug valves suitable for handling abrasive or viscous fluids, slurries, and corrosive chemicals. Their simple yet robust design minimizes maintenance requirements and ensures long-term durability, making them a cost-effective solution for critical fluid handling processes. Sleeveline plug valves are commonly used in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, and wastewater treatment, where dependable performance and resistance to wear are essential. With their versatile applications and reliable operation, sleeveline plug valves are vital in ensuring efficient and safe fluid control in various industrial settings.

- A sleeveline plug valve is a non-lubricated quarter-turn valve that uses a cylindrical plug with a PTFE (Teflon) sleeve to control fluid flow. The plug rotates within the valve body and the PTFE sleeve provides the sealing surface between the plug and the body, eliminating the need for grease or lubricant to maintain a seal. When the plug is rotated 90 degrees, the port through the plug aligns with the pipeline to allow flow; rotating it back misaligns the port and shuts off flow. Because no lubricant is required, sleeveline plug valves will not contaminate the process media — making them suitable for chemical processing, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and other applications where product purity matters. The PTFE sleeve also provides excellent chemical resistance and low-friction operation. Centro carries the Durco G4 Sleeveline Non-Lubricated Plug Valve in carbon steel and 316 stainless steel body and plug materials, ANSI Class 150 flanged, with lever or gear operator options.
- Lubricated plug valves require a sealant (lubricant) to be periodically injected between the plug and body to maintain a seal and reduce operating torque. The lubricant fills the gap between the metal plug and body, providing both sealing and lubrication for smooth operation. These valves are common in oil and gas and pipeline applications where the lubricant is compatible with the media. Non-lubricated plug valves, like the sleeveline design, use a PTFE sleeve or liner between the plug and body to provide sealing and low-friction operation without any external lubricant. This eliminates maintenance associated with lubricant injection, prevents contamination of the process media, and reduces the risk of the valve sticking or seizing if left in one position for extended periods. Non-lubricated sleeveline plug valves are the preferred choice in chemical processing, water treatment, and any application where lubricant contamination is unacceptable or where maintenance access for lubricant injection is impractical.
- Sleeveline plug valves are used across a wide range of industries and services where reliable, contamination-free shutoff and flow control are required. Chemical processing plants use them for handling corrosive chemicals, acids, caustics, and solvents where the PTFE sleeve provides both chemical resistance and prevents lubricant contamination. Oil and gas facilities use them for hydrocarbon services, produced water, and utility systems. Wastewater treatment plants use them for chemical feed lines and process isolation. Pulp and paper mills use them for handling process chemicals and slurries. The sleeveline design handles abrasive and viscous fluids well because the PTFE sleeve protects the sealing surfaces from wear and the reduced-port design minimizes the exposure of internal components to the flowing media. They are suitable for both on/off isolation and moderate throttling applications, and can be automated with pneumatic or electric actuators for integration into plant control systems.
- Sleeveline plug valves are available in several material combinations to match different process requirements. The Durco G4 Sleeveline valve is offered with a carbon steel body and 316 stainless steel plug, which is the standard configuration for general industrial and chemical services where carbon steel provides adequate corrosion resistance for the body while the stainless steel plug and PTFE sleeve handle contact with the process media. For more corrosive applications, all-316 stainless steel construction (both body and plug) is available, providing superior resistance to chlorides, acids, and other corrosive media. The PTFE sleeve is standard across all configurations, providing chemical resistance to virtually all media and a low-friction, non-contaminating seal surface. All models are available in ANSI Class 150 flanged end connections, which covers the majority of general chemical and industrial applications up to the pressure-temperature ratings of Class 150.
- Sleeveline plug valves are available with several operator options to suit different application requirements. A standard wrench (lever) operator is the most common choice for smaller valve sizes — it provides manual quarter-turn operation and is available in non-locking configurations for general service or locking configurations where the valve position must be secured. A gear operator is used on larger valve sizes where the operating torque exceeds what a lever can comfortably handle — the gear operator converts multiple handwheel turns into the quarter-turn plug rotation, providing mechanical advantage and fine position control. For automated operation, sleeveline plug valves can be fitted with pneumatic or electric actuators mounted to the valve stem using the standard mounting interface. Bare stem configurations (actuation-ready, with no manual operator installed) are also available for applications where an actuator will be mounted directly. The right operator choice depends on valve size, required operating frequency, whether automation is needed, and whether the valve will be used for simple on/off isolation or for throttling.
