Backwash

Backwash filters clean themselves by reversing flow through the filter media or screen, flushing trapped solids to drain. They're widely used in water treatment, irrigation, cooling water and pre-filtration for membranes.

Backwash Filter Types

• Screen backwash filters – fast, compact cleaning
• Media backwash filters – sand and multi-media beds
• Carbon backwash filters – remove chlorine, taste and odor
• Automatic control valves – timer or DP-initiated cycles

Planning Considerations

Consider flow rate, water quality, available backwash water and drain capacity. Multi-tank systems can backwash one unit while others stay in service. Proper backwash flow rate is critical. Too little leaves dirt behind, and too much can wash out the media.
