Liquid Strainers

Liquid strainers protect pumps, meters, valves and spray nozzles by catching scale, weld slag, rust and other debris before it can cause damage. A properly sized strainer is one of the least expensive ways to prevent unplanned downtime in a piping system.

Strainer Styles

• Y strainers – compact, inline protection for steam, water and process lines
• Basket strainers – larger debris capacity and easy cleaning for higher flows
• Duplex strainers – switch between baskets to clean without shutting down
• Automatic self-cleaning strainers – backflush on a timer or differential pressure
• Temporary cone strainers – protect equipment during startup and commissioning

Sizing and Selection

Choose the screen or perforation size based on the smallest particle your downstream equipment can tolerate, and size the body so pressure drop stays low at full flow. Materials range from cast iron and carbon steel to stainless, bronze and plastics for corrosive fluids. Adding a differential pressure gauge makes it easy to see when the basket needs cleaning.
